The Technical Sergeant (TEC 5) was a rank in the United States Army during World War II. It was created in 1942 to bridge the gap between the rank of Technician Fourth Grade (TEC 4) and Staff Sergeant. TEC 5 was typically given to soldiers who had specialized technical skills or were responsible for supervising and training lower-ranking soldiers.
TEC 5s were often assigned to roles such as mechanics, radio operators, medics, or drivers. They were considered non-commissioned officers and held positions of authority within their units. TEC 5s were responsible for ensuring that their teams were properly trained, equipped, and ready for combat.
After the end of World War II, the rank of TEC 5 was abolished and replaced with the rank of Sergeant. The legacy of the TEC 5 lives on in the Army's history, as these soldiers played a vital role in the success of the Allies during the war.
